I dont do this for everything I tame, just important high level tames like quetzals and gigas. The dino loses its food at the same speed and it needs to eat the same amount of times. So if you, for example, let 50 food go down 10 times or if you starve 500 food, it'll eat 10 times and get the same progress. VicRattlehedKal Aug 7, 2015 @ 10:42am. No reason to starve a scorpion. They eat the same amount of food regardless and each time they eat the taming efficiency drops. People that use the starvation method use it so that you can dump a massive amount of prime meat into an animal at once so that it doesn't have time to spoil. #6.If you tamed normally untameable fish like coel,salmon or piranha with fish basket, they dont eat normally. You cant increase stats nor food does not go down. You simply need to have trough with food for them in the range or the will starve after a while. I have a tamed coel sitting in my water pen for last 8 months now.

Therefore if the tame is hit before starting to tame it shouldn't effect it.
